Engineering researchers at the Faculty of Technology, University of Jaffna, unveiled low-cost solar-assisted agricultural dehydrators and smart humidity telemetry units during a field demonstration today, September 23, 2026.

Engineered specifically for Northern Province smallholders, the convective solar drying chambers enable hygienic, accelerated processing of red onions, moringa leaf powder, and dry chilies. Faculty leads stated that the solar technology prevents post-harvest fungal spoilage during overcast monsoon intervals, enabling cooperative farmers to preserve produce quality and command premium wholesale prices.
