The Uva Provincial Land Commissioner's Department successfully concluded the distribution and statutory registration of over 10,700 permanent land ownership permits today, September 25, 2026, benefiting smallholder farming households across the Badulla District.

The landmark initiative covers agricultural communities in Bandarawela, Ella, Haputale, and Haldummulla who previously occupied state lands under temporary lease arrangements. District administrative leaders highlighted that issuing secure, legally recognized freehold titles empowers farming families to access low-interest agricultural bank credit, invest in long-term soil conservation, and construct permanent residential dwellings with guaranteed legal tenure.
